Lesa Robertson, MSN, RN, RN-BC, CMSRN

Why She Was Chosen

Lesa is an Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD Nurse and is the school nurse at Comanche Springs Elementary. She has been a school nurse for five years. As a school nurse she manages complicated health issues. Lesa always has welcoming smile that comforts the many students she sees in a day. She partners with the teachers and staff at Comanche Springs to ensure students are healthy and ready to learn. Before joining Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD, she worked as a nurse in telemetry, PCU, endoscopy, and home health. She is a certified Medical-Surgical nurse as well as board certified in Gerontological Nursing. She graduated from TWU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later went on to get a master’s in nursing informatics from WGU. She decided to try school nursing after she had children of her own and found that it is a career was one that she enjoys. She has goal to becoming a certified school nurse.

What is Health Hero of the Month?

Health Hero of the month is a joint effort between SaferCare Texas and Cook Children’s. Through this initiative, we intend to highlight and celebrate the efforts of dedicated school staff who are improving student health.

Rachael Rivera

Why She Was Chosen

This month we are excited to feature Mrs. Rachael Rivera for her outstanding work with students who have used asthma medication in school-based clinics in the district.  Mrs. Rivera is an Army veteran and Family Nurse Practitioner who enjoys working part time for Northwest ISD. She helped both young and older students understand more about the asthma disease process and treatments by bringing them information in one-to-one and small group settings. She also contributed to a broader interpretation of the original project that has evolved into a second grant application through Asthma 411.

Why They Were Chosen

Honor the diversity of the students and families served in Fort Worth ISD 

Ensure the services provided to students are individualized. No two students are exactly alike. 

Adapt to the different environments, nurses, and needs of the 128 campuses they may float to 

Listen to the students…really listen 

Treat students as they would want their own children to be treated at school 

Hold in high regard the vision of the district’s Health Services Department

 

Hone their skills as Health Assistants to provide the best care possible to the students 

Exhibit a high level of compassion 

Retain a sense of humor, even in challenging situations
